A day in the life of a Ginger

Deliciously Innapropriate and Fully Ridiculous

The countdown is on April 26, 2008

So I hate my job, it’s really not a state secret, but lately it’s become unbearable to even be there. I am quiting, I’m not just bitching for bitching’s sake anymore, it’s now just a matter of time till my new job starts- hence the countdown. It all officially reached a head yesterday, because of a shirt. You see our serving uniform is black pants with a long black apron, men’s button up white dress shirt and a tie (sexy, no?). Needless to say it’s an ass load of clothing and a lot of my shifts during the week are out on the terrace now, which is becoming very warm, it was in the mid-80’s yesterday and I was sweating balls working out there. But there was a beautiful end in sight, we were going to switch over to nice (fitted) short sleeved, white polos this weekend and continue on for the rest of the summer. They had told us this for months and everyone had bought the shirts, and then… Yesterday (about 16 hours before the scheduled switch), Corporate writes an e-mail that says that they changed their mind and that we were not only never going be able to wear polos, but that we were going to have to wear those heavy, layered uniforms out on the open terrace all summer long. To say that I was angry when I was told this is quite possibly the understatement of the year, I was livid and very thoroughly flipped my shit. To tell this story to people who have never worked there may lose some of it’s effect, you might think- what’s the big deal? It’s just a difference of a shirt. But the thing is that come July it’s usually between 90 and a 100 degrees for a good 5-6 weeks. The humidity is very high and the terrace is obscenely crowded, there have been so many people who have suffered from severe dehydration or heat stroke over the past few years out there, and making us put on more clothing frankly makes it dangerous to work outside now. This is bullshit, and really it’s just showing a pattern of how the company doesn’t care whatesoever about it’s employees anymore. I have about 5 weeks left and it’s taking everything in me to not just walk out at the end of every bullshit shift that I endure there.

That is utter bullshit! They should at the very least reimburse you for the purchase of the new uniforms! The fuckers. What is your new job?

Fuckin’ bastards. Do what I always wanted to do when I quite Culver’s; dance on a bed of buns (or other bread product), light your uniform on fire, and non-chalantly walk out of the restaurant naked. Go out with a bang baby!

Yea, that’s crap. I’ve heard the same complaint from Nate last summer when he was working at the Burbank airport. Being outside all day, in a business suit and tie during 105 degree weather is not healthy, and neither is carrying people’s food while wearing multiple layers of clothing. I’d be pissed too.
