Ginger= idiot girlfriend April 29, 2008

I know this may come as a shock to some of you, but my status of being thoroughly socially- retarded has now been set in stone. The other day I got myself in relationship trouble by revealing  a fact that I very foolishly believed wasn’t a big deal. You see, there’s this valet guy who works right outside my restaurant who I talk to every once in a while. I waited on him and a bunch of his friends a year ago and now we chat whenever we see each other. No big deal. Lately I seem to see him after every shift and we’ve been talking, more of me venting about my job really, but it’s no big deal- we’re just friends. So the other night after we talk for a few minutes he says that we should hang out sometime and asks for my phone number. I think, “Ok, no big deal, we’re friends. He doesn’t think of me in any other way.” So I give him my phone number. Over the next two days the thought that perhaps he might think of me differently than I think of him creeps into my head. To quash these thoughts I decide to get a guys perspective. I ask my male roommate and my boyfriend the other night “So, as a guy, if you ask for a girl’s phone number, it’s not always going to mean that you like her or want to sleep with her right? I mean, guys don’t always think in such absolutes do they?” Apparently they do. My roommate chastises me for being such a neive idiot, and my boyfriend gets upset. So upset that he is just quiet ands I have no idea that he’s extraordinarily angry with me ( we’ve never had a fight, I don’t really know what to look for). Turns out that men don’t really care for their girlfriends casually giving out their phone numbers to other guys- who knew?! I was able to fix this dilemma by significant sucking up, apologizing profusely, and cooking him a big batch of enchiladas, among other things… Now, with all things said and done, I am left with a terrible awareness that I am an idiot. Who doesn’t think of stuff like that? If a guy asks for your phone number then it means he likes you -duh.
